Collaboration time!

Posted on by Frederik Petzoldt, Posted in DJ sets, gigs, new project! .

Lately I’ve been collaborating with a few great musicians. The amazing violin wizard Frog Pocket, from Edinburgh, trumpet maestro Milan Mes and versatile percussionist / DJ Petro Pas. Sometimes adding their own spicy electronic compositions to my sets as well as live instruments. This has mainly taken place during Ecstatic Dance nights which I’ve been involved in for the past few months in places such as Odessa in AmsterdamOpen Up Festival & Djoj in Rotterdam. These nights have added a lot of new experience and joy to my DJ life. Joy because the opportunity to play with others where DJ-ing can sometimes be a slightly lonesome job 😉 And experience as it has brought another exciting and  unpredictable element to my dancefloor sets.
If you want to experience it Live come to Ecstatic Dance in Rotterdam on the September 27, where I’ll be collaborating with Petro again. click for the link

Socrates & de Graaf

Posted on by Frederik Petzoldt, Posted in DJ sets, Festival, gigs, new project! .

We’ve actually been playing & doing gigs together for a year already.. But this season we’ve taken it to a new level.. I build a groove-tale with dub tracks, funky electronica, a dash of D&B and a generous hand full of Afro- Latin, Tropical & Indian flavours. Arjen de Graaf adds his soulful and swirling violin to the mix improvising and completing the musical journey. First we’ve mastered the lounge vibe and now we’ve taking our spicy brew to the dancefloors.. next stop: Festival Karavaan in Alkmaar!

For me a major part of getting inspired as a DJ is to go and experience the music live.. Concerts, jam-sessions, festivals..and off course fellow DJ’s performing. I used to make field recordings with an MD recorder and a stereo mic.. An intense and difficult job at times. I’ve stopped doing it, to be more in the moment and “just enjoy the music.” Recently though I’ve started to record video’s; nothing ambitious just fun vibe impressions of good music. I’ve uploaded some of these clips on my Youtube Channel. Have a look!: Socrates reports – YouTube click for the link

Bert Vertigo & Socrates

I’m collaborating with Mike Hastings aka Bert Vertigo, a talented musician and DJ from Glasgow.. He’s highly active in the Scottish alternative music scene and also part of the successful folkrock band Trembling Bells. Together we bring the most exciting music from the first psychedelic era (1965-1969) and the beginning of prog rock ( early 70’s) to the dancefloor. To get an idea of what that sounds like listen to our new mix!
